On September 30, 2009 OSHA published a proposed rulemaking (FR 74:50279-50549) to align OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). The GHS was adopted by the United Nations in 2003 with a goal of enhancing the protection of human health and the environment by providing an internationally comprehensible system for hazard communication.
OSHA believes that the proposed modifications will improve the quality and consistency of information provided to employers and employees regarding chemical hazards and associated protective measures. |
