Quality (ISO 9001/AS9100)

ISO 9001:2008 is a quality management system requirements standard that was designed to be applicable to all organizations regardless of the type or size of the business. Since inception of the original ISO 9000 series of standards in 1987, the ISO 9000 standards have become globally recognized as the basis for establishing quality management systems.

By the end of 2007 nearly 1,000,000 businesses in 175 countries had received ISO 9001:2000 certificates. 36,192 of these businesses were located within the United States.
ISO 9001 Certificates Issued
The most recent change to the ISO 9001 standard was adopted on November 15, 2008. The changes made in this revision are minor in nature and serve to:
  • clarify many elements of the ISO 9001:2000 standard without adding, deleting or altering its requirements; and
  • improve compatibility between ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 (a standard for environmental management systems).
